Program Description

This CME session will bring together expert faculty and caregiver perspectives to explore the complex challenges of recognizing and managing LGS across the lifespan. Through expert discussion, real-world patient scenarios, audience polling, and case-based problem solving, participants will examine strategies to recognize LGS in adults, apply evolving evidence to individualized treatment decisions, optimize complex medication regimens, and address drug-drug interactions and polypharmacy. Discussion will extend beyond seizure control to consider cognition, behavior, sleep, communication, quality of life, and caregiver burden. Faculty will also explore the role of multidisciplinary care, nonpharmacologic interventions, caregiver engagement, and transitions to adult neurology and long-term-care settings. The interactive program will emphasize practical strategies for translating evidence into coordinated, patient- and caregiver-centered care.

Target Audience

This program is designed to address identified knowledge and practice gaps among neurology physicians, specialist nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician associates (PAs), and neuropsychiatrists, as well as long-term-care (LTC) providers—including physicians, NPs, and nursing staff—who support adolescents and adults with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in residential settings and other chronic care environments.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

• Accurately diagnose LGS in either pediatric or adult patients through clinical and seizure history, examination, EEG, and genetic testing
• Develop and optimize individualized treatment plans based on seizure characteristics, comorbidities, patient and caregiver needs, and pharmacotherapy efficacy and safety
• Assess and manage cognitive, behavioral, sleep, communication, and quality-of-life challenges that contribute to the overall burden of LGS
• Incorporate strategies to reduce caregiver burden, including multidisciplinary care, caregiver support and education, and consideration of long-term care for patients with LGS
