Target Audience

Program Overview

Nonadvanced systemic mastocytosis (SM) is frequently missed or misdiagnosed, delaying access to effective, disease-modifying care. This Science in the Spotlight symposium unites SM specialists for a case-driven exploration of KIT D816V–mediated pathophysiology, diagnostic strategies, and advances in KIT-targeted therapy, using interactive Case-Based Checkpoints to translate mechanistic insight into practical patient management for nonadvanced disease. Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

• Describe the biologic mechanisms underlying nonadvanced SM, including key driver mutations and mast cell activation pathways and how they form the basis for targeted therapies
• Differentiate nonadvanced subtypes using contemporary World Health Organization (WHO)/International Consensus Classification (ICC) diagnostic frameworks that integrate clinical features, biomarkers, and molecular testing to support earlier and more accurate diagnosis and classification
• Evaluate evidence for approved and emerging therapies for nonadvanced SM, including key clinical trial data, safety considerations, and appropriate patient selection
• Implement individualized management strategies for nonadvanced SM that incorporate therapeutic risk–benefit considerations, patient-reported outcomes, shared decision-making, and patient education
