Pharmacy PrEP Education: A “How-to” Series Spanning Policy to Practice

A Multifaceted HIV Prevention Curriculum for Pharmacists

This comprehensive curriculum provides pharmacists with the necessary clinical, management, and policy tools for implementing HIV prevention services including postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) and preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). State boards of pharmacy across the United States have started to expand the scope of pharmacy practice to include HIV prevention services. Accordingly, the goal of this curriculum is to address any educational needs to bring pharmacists up to speed on the latest in HIV preventive care. The comprehensive electronic/downloadable monograph has been developed to specifically support the needs of pharmacists as they seek to understand and implement guidelines and protocols for HIV PrEP and PEP. As states begin to put in place their own board of pharmacy protocols, state-specific details emerge that pharmacists from each of those states need to know. Therefore, we have created 3 short, state primers for pharmacists practicing in Nevada, Oregon, and Virginia to address those additional clinical or policy issues. And finally, the curriculum includes a webinar that focuses on medication therapy management protocols, and views PrEP through a health equity lens.
