Target Audience

The activity is directed toward specialist rheumatology care clinicians, nurse practitioners, and physician associates who provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with or at risk of axial spondyloarthritis (AxSpA) as well as nonspecialists and primary care providers who care for patients with AxSpA.

Program Overview

With a multitude of possible clinical presentations and a lack of validated diagnostic criteria, late or missed diagnosis of AxSpA is all too common in clinical practice. Further complicating diagnosis, a subset of patients with AxSpA do not exhibit radiographic changes on plain film x-ray. With recent advances in the therapeutic armamentarium able to halt the irreversible structural changes associated with AxSpA progression, it is more important than ever to diagnose AxSpA as early as possible. Therefore, best practices for early recognition and diagnosis, as well as implementation biologic and small molecule therapies, are valuable to improve outcomes in this patient population. AxSpA Boot Camp: Are You Up to Date on Recent Advances? is a multimedia training program designed to strengthen expertise in the diagnosis and management of AxSpA.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Describe the diagnostic procedures for both ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and nr-AxSpA
  • Identify the mechanisms of action, relative benefits, and safety profiles of current biologic and small-molecule therapies for AS and/or non-radiographic (nr)-AxSpA
  • Incorporate clinical strategies for individualized selection of AxSpA therapy with consideration of patient preference and the presence of any extra-musculoskeletal manifestations and/or comorbid conditions
