Target Audience
The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of US-based HIV-treating physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and pharmacists.
Program Overview
HIV treaters must be prepared to see a diverse set of patients and address multiple topics during their clinic day. In this activity, learners will enter a virtual environment to follow Dr. Onyema Ogbuagu through a morning of meetings and appointments that includes discussing cardiovascular disease, initiating rapid antiretroviral therapy (ART), consulting with other clinicians about heavily treatment-experienced (HTE) patients with multidrug resistance (MDR), and engaging in a training session about long-acting injectables (LAI) led by Dr. Bailey Thayer.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Optimize workflow protocols to administer LAI ART to eligible patients
- Describe appropriate management of comorbidities in patients with HIV, including ART-regimen modification or initiation of treatment for relevant conditions
- Educate newly diagnosed patients about HIV, undetectable = untransmittable (U=U), and available ART regimens
- Develop subsequent treatment regimens for patients experiencing virologic failure, including those for HTE patients with MDR
