A Day in the Life of an HIV Treater: Overcoming Common Challenges in Practice

Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of US-based HIV-treating physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and pharmacists.

Program Overview

Continuing with the clinic day from activity 1, this activity will engage learners in a virtual environment to follow Dr. Onyema Ogbuagu for his afternoon appointments, during which he will assess a patient experiencing virologic failure, treat a patient with obesity, lead a staff meeting about the most recent updates in 2-drug regimens (2DRs), and consult with Dr. Frederick Altice about a patient with substance use disorder.

Educational Objectives 

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

1. Describe appropriate management of comorbidities in patients with HIV, including ART-regimen modification or initiation of treatment for relevant conditions
2. Develop subsequent treatment regimens for patients experiencing virologic failure, including those for HTE patients with MDR
3. Review status of oral 2DR development, available clinical trials, and trial enrollment procedures

Instructions to Receive Credit

In order to receive credit for this activity, the participant must complete the activity, application for credit and evaluation form. Participants must also score at least 70% on the post-test. Pharmacists must check CPE monitor for their credit within 60 days of activity completion. Credit cannot be claimed after 60 days.
