Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinicians involved in the care of patients at risk of HIV infection.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the burden and epidemiology surrounding human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) risk and transmission
  • Utilize US Public Health Service (USPHS)/US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) clinical practice guidelines: Preexposure Prophylaxis for the Prevention (PrEP) of HIV Prevention in the United States to appropriately screen and determine eligibility for PrEP
  • Initiate a patient-provider dialog regarding sexual health and a sexual behavior assessment
  • Implement appropriate HIV-prevention strategies for initiation and monitoring of patients on PrEP
