Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of US-based pediatric and adult hematologists, hematologist-oncologists, hematology advanced practice providers, and other clinicians (pediatricians/primary care) who manage patients with hemophilia.

Program Overview

Unlike factor replacement therapy where factor VIII and IX are directly replaced in patients with hemophilia A and B, respectively, nonfactor therapies have different mechanisms of action that clinicians need to be aware of to safely and effectively implement them. In this Hematology News: Hemophilia Edition activity, Hemophilia and the Coagulation Cascade, Drs. Guy Young and Stacy Croteau start by giving an overview of hemophilia and the coagulation cascade. Additionally, with the help of a 3D animation, they outline the mechanisms of action of the nonfactor therapies and how these agents fulfill a previously unmet need in the hemophilia armamentarium.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Describe the mechanisms of action and therapeutic targets of novel and emerging nonfactor therapies for hemophilia.
