Treating Concomitant Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes

Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of primary care providers (PCPs), obstetrician gynecologists (OBGYNs), functional medicine practitioners, and pediatricians involved in the treatment of patients with obesity.

Program Overview

Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) often coexist, presenting complex treatment decisions for clinicians. In this episode, Dr. Leigh Perreault and Dr. Charles Vega discuss how to approach these conditions as interconnected components of metabolic dysfunction. They review evidence supporting the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists and GIP/GLP-1 dual agonists in patients with T2D, the impact of these therapies on cardiovascular and renal outcomes, and considerations for individualized treatment selection. Learn how to optimize therapy for patients living with both obesity and T2D.
