Combining GLP-1–RAs and Bariatric Surgery

Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of primary care providers (PCPs), obstetrician gynecologists (OBGYNs), functional medicine practitioners, and pediatricians involved in the treatment of patients with obesity.

Program Overview

As the landscape of obesity treatment evolves, the intersection of pharmacologic therapies and surgical options becomes increasingly nuanced. In this episode, Dr. Janey Pratt and Dr. Mark Gomez explore when and how glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists (RAs) can be used in relation to bariatric surgery. They discuss surgical candidacy criteria, benefits of bariatric surgery, long-term outcomes, and how to match treatment strategies to patient-specific characteristics, preferences, and goals.
