COURSE DESCRIPTION
Severe asthma is a chronic lung disease that imposes significant quality of life burdens on its patients, particularly within communities facing environmental and socioeconomic challenges. Insufficient management leading to uncontrolled symptoms, delayed specialty referral, and overreliance on oral corticosteroids continue to contribute to poor outcomes. This CME program will provide practical, guideline-based and collaborative care strategies to improve severe asthma management and long-term patient outcomes while addressing access-related barriers to treatment and specialty care.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This program is designed to educate primary care providers (PCPs), including MDs, nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician associates (PAs).
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Identify patients with severe asthma based on symptom control, exacerbation history, treatment responses, and appropriate referrals to specialists.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to maximize symptom control, reduce risks, and overcome common cultural, logistical, and managed care barriers for patients with severe asthma.
- Communicate with patients with severe asthma about their disease, treatment options, therapeutic preferences, and action plans.
